Just steps away from the ocean on Hatteras Island

November 09 Storm

Hatteras Island endured a pretty good noreastern back in November.  While the whole island suffered much ocean overwash and flooding, Rodanthe took the brunt of the storm.  Route 12 was closed for a few days as much of the pavement at the S-Turn was washed out.  Remarkably, the road was back in service a few days later.  Route 12 in Buxton, Frisco, and Hatteras had much flooding, and was largely impassable.   We had some wedding guests whom we shuttled through flooded Route 12 from the ferry landing in Hatteras Village.  The wedding was slightly delayed, but it was surely a memorable event.  More information is available on www.islandfreepress.org under Local News/ Storm Update
